Project registration for Semester 1 2025 is now OPEN and will CLOSE on Monday 3 March 2025 at 5pm. Please look under ‘Computing Projects’ or ‘Engineering Projects’ below for information about the relevant registration form.
Computing projects
Computing Individual and Honours Research Projects
Note: Project registration form required for enrolment.

COMP3740 (6 units)
- Must be taken in 1 semester.
COMP3770 (12 units)
- Only available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Research and Development) (Honours).
- From 2024, must be taken over 2 consecutive semesters.
COMP4560 (12 units) - This project course will be discontinued from 2026.
- For students who commenced AACOM between 2020 and 2022
- Students who are intending to take this course must start the project in Semester 1 2025.
- This course must be taken in two consecutive semesters.
COMP8755 (12 units) - This project course has been discontinued from 2025.
COMP4550 (24 units)
- Available to students enrolled a Computing Honours program, including the Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Honours), Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Research and Development) (Honours), Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours)/Bachelor of Computing (Honours), and Bachelor of Applied Data Analytics (Honours).
- Also available to students enrolled in a Science Honours program with a Computer Science Honours specialisation.
- For Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) students, COMP4550 is the approved substitution for COMP4540 (which has now been discontinued).
- Must be taken in 2 consecutive semesters.
COMP8800 (24 units)
- Only available to Master of Computing (Advanced) and Master of Machine Learning and Computer Vision students.

For Master of Machine Learning and Computer Vision students, COMP8800 is the approved substitution from COMP8603 (which has now been discontinued). Students will need to have:
- Completed or be concurrently enrolled in COMP6445 Computing Research Methods, and
- 12 units of university elective space available to accommodate a larger project.
Computing Group Projects - TechLauncher
No project registration required - students who satisfy the prerequisites can self-enrol.
TechLauncher is an initiative that enables students to develop the research and professional skills required to use technology to bring great ideas to life and positively impact our society. Students will work closely with industry professionals, technology experts, and entrepreneurs to complete projects addressing complex problems across a variety of disciplines and industries. Students are given the choice to create start-up software companies whilst guided by experienced industry mentors, or to work with industry professionals on real-world projects.
Students participating in the Start-Up scheme will enter the Innovation ACT competition and compete for funding. For more information, view the TechLauncher website.
COMP3740 (6 units)
- Students may seek approval to enrol in a 6-unit TechLauncher project to be completed in 1 semester.
COMP3500 (12 units)
- Must be taken over 2 consecutive semesters.
COMP4500 (12 units)
- Must be taken over 2 consecutive semesters.
- Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Honours) students who commenced in 2023 are approved to substitute COMP4810 (now discontinued) with COMP4500.
COMP8715 (12 units)
- Must be taken over 2 consecutive semesters.

Note: Project registration is not required for students enrolling in Engineering R&D projects. All other Engineering projects will require a Project Registration Form for enrolment.

ENGN2707 (6 units)
- Must be taken in 1 semester.
ENGN3706 (6 units)
- Must be taken in 1 semester.
ENGN3712 (6 units)
- Can be taken in 1 semester or over 2 consecutive semesters.
ENGN4706 (6 units)
- Must be taken in 1 semester.
ENGN4712 (12 units)
- Can be taken in 1 semester or over 2 consecutive semesters.
ENGN4718 (18 units)
- Can be taken in 2 consecutive semesters or over 3 consecutive semesters.
ENGN4200 (12 units) - only applicable to students who commenced their Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) before 2019
- Normally completed over 2 consecutive semesters. It may be possible to complete in 1 semester with supervisor and course convener approval. Please note that completing a project in 1 semester is not guaranteed and students are strongly advised to consider the increased workload of a minimum 20 hours per week.
- Students will contact CSS Student Services (student.css@anu.edu.au) to express their intention to enrol in ENGN4200.
- Students will be required to register the details of their project with the project course convener as a hurdle assessment due in Week 2.
ENGN4350 (12 units)
- Normally completed over 2 consecutive semesters. It may be possible to complete in 1 semester with supervisor and course convener approval. Please note that completing a project in 1 semester is not guaranteed and students are strongly advised to consider the increased workload of a minimum 20 hours per week.
- Students must have a raw average of at least 70% to be eligible to complete an individual project. This average is calculated using all courses completed at ANU, including failed courses and electives. NCN and WN has a numerical value of 0.
- In addition to the Project Registration Form, students will be required to register the details of their project with the project course convener as a hurdle assessment due in Week 2.
ENGN8602 (6-12 units)
- Can be taken in 1 semester or over 2 consecutive semesters.
ENGN8601 (6-24 units)
- Can be taken in 1 semester or over 2 consecutive semesters.
- If enrolling into 18-24 units, it must be taken over 2 consecutive semesters.
Engineering Group Projects
No project registration required - students who satisfy the prerequisites can self-enrol.
ENGN4300 (12 units)
- Must be taken over 2 consecutive semesters.
ENGN8170 (12 units)
- Must be taken in 1 semester.
