Support services
The ANU community will support you to settle in your life in Australia. You can speak to our ANU Careers Centre to explore ideas to take your career to the next level, get academic writing help from the Academic Skills and Learning Centre, or simply chat with your program convener about your study materials.
If you’re new to the ANU, we recommend the Set4ANU mentorship program. You will be paired with a current student who will help you settle in Canberra.
Student associations
The ANU College of Systems & Society also has affiliations with many clubs and societies. Get involved with student groups across the university and you will be exposed to educational, professional and social opportunities to support your studies.

These groups allowed me to implement the skills I’ve learnt in my engineering degree and additionally, being part of these teams and working towards a common goal fostered amazing friendships, gave me motivation, and allowed me to grow.

Connect with industry
Courses like TechLauncher and Capstone connect students with industry and government to solve real world problems. Students are introduced to a network of potential employers while developing research and professional skills to bring great ideas to life.
The majority of our degrees are professionally accredited by Engineers Australia or the Australian Computer Society (ASC). Our College is also a member of Australia’s leading industry groups and international organisations such as Google, The Boeing Company, KPMG, Microsoft and more.
TechLauncher

TechLauncher is an initiative which enables students to develop the research and professional skills required to use technology to bring great ideas to life and have a positive impact on our society.
Capstone

In Capstone Design Project, you will work as an independent group to deliver value on a real-world project. Teams will work to define and scope their project in consultation with project clients, and tailor and manage system life-cycle processes to the delivery of the project.
Work Integrated Learning
Work experience is a compulsory component of your degree if you are studying any of the following programs:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (R&D) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering
Work Experience offers you the opportunity to integrate academic theory and ‘real world’ practice. You will enhance your technical and leadership skills whilst gaining experience in the workforce and insight into professional practice.
The difference between work experience and an internship
Work experience is a mandatory requirement of your Engineering degree but does not count for any credit. Work experience roles are found and organised by the student.
For-credit internships are offered by the College through an application process and are optional. Internships are assessable and count for 6-24 units of credit.
Flexible Double Degree
At ANU you can design your own Flexible Double Degree (FDD). An FDD is a great way to combine your interests and stand out in the job market after your studies, taking 4–5 years to complete and will see you graduate with two bachelor’s awards.
There are over 600 possible double degree combinations, use our degree builder to find one that works for you!
Where you belong
Living on campus offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the ANU experience. Being in on-campus residences allows you to meet and quickly make friends with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
Choose from fully catered, partly-catered or self-catered residences, all within walking distance to the city. Domestic Undergraduate students are also guaranteed a place in one of our residences for their first year.
