Innovation and collaboration take centre stage at ANU College of Systems and Society Showcase

Innovative ideas, high-quality research and tech-driven solutions were on display at The Australian National University (ANU) this week, as the ANU College of Systems and Society hosted its Semester 2, 2025 Showcase. 

The Showcase offered visitors a window into the breadth of student and research work across the College. Held on Tuesday 21 October at the ANU Sports Hall on the Acton campus, the event drew the College’s largest audience yet, with more than 600 attendees exploring a wide range of posters, prototypes and interactive displays.

The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS), the Fenner School of Environment and Society, and the School of Cybernetics each shared examples of the exciting work emerging from their disciplines. 

The School of Computing featured research from academic researchers alongside student-led initiatives from its Work Integrated Learning programs. ANU computing students showcased their team and individual projects from the University’s signature TechLauncher and Computing Internship programs, highlighting innovative solutions developed in collaboration with industry and community partners. 

The School of Engineering also had a strong presence, with Early Career Researchers and Higher Degree by Research students sharing their work. Capstone Design Project students presented the culmination of their year-long efforts – a hallmark of the ANU engineering curriculum, where final-year students tackle real-world engineering challenges under the guidance of academic mentors and industry partners. 

The Showcase also featured the work of the latest cohort of Professional Practice students, a core course that equips engineering and computing students with professional and communication skills essential for 21st-century workplaces – enhancing the career readiness of ANU graduates. 

A key theme throughout the event was collaboration. Many of the showcased projects were developed in consultation with government agencies, businesses and community organisations, underscoring the College’s emphasis on applied research and real-world impact. 

The Showcase provided a platform for students and researchers to present their work, engage directly with peers and external partners, and explore new opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.
